He said this during his visit to the Belarusian NPP, BelTA informs.
“Everything is so mundane as if the metro was built. It is a historic moment — the country is becoming a nuclear power,” Lukashenko said.
In addition, he preliminarily surveyed the station territory from a helicopter. The agency notes that with the commissioning of the nuclear power plant, Belarus joins the world club of states using atomic energy for peaceful purposes.
On November 7, Alexander Lukashenko arrived in Ostrovets to open the first nuclear power plant in Belarus, which is opposed by neighboring Lithuania.
BelNPP is located near the town of Ostrovets in the Grodno region, 50 km from Vilnius. It has been built since 2011 according to the Russian VVER-1200 design. The general contractor for the construction of the NPP is Atomstroyexport, a structure of Rosatom.
