Italian antitrust regulator fined Apple €10 million

The Italian Agency for the Protection of Competition and Market (AGCM) fined the American company Apple €10 million for unfair business practices. This was reported on Monday in a press release from the Antimonopoly Office.

In particular, we are talking about misleading reports about the water-resistance of a number of iPhones, according to which these devices could withstand “a depth of one to four meters depending on the model” for a maximum of 30 minutes. According to the Italian department, Apple did not clarify that the gadgets are waterproof “only under certain conditions, such as during special and controlled laboratory tests,” and not during normal consumer use.

The fine was also issued for Apple’s refusal to “provide warranty assistance when iPhone phones were damaged by water or other liquids.”
