The EU: coronavirus COVID-19 will remain with humanity for a long time

The virus has adapted very well to the human body, in connection with which it may be necessary to adjust the vaccine, the head of the ECDC believes.

The coronavirus COVID-19 will remain with humanity for a long time, despite vaccinations and a decrease in the number of infected. This was stated by the head of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) Andrea Ammon, AFP reported on Friday, February 12.

According to Ammon, the virus has adapted very well to the human body, and therefore the vaccine may need to be adjusted over time.

In addition, the head of the ECDC urged countries to remain vigilant about the infection and be prepared for the fact that it will not be possible to completely eliminate it.

“We must be prepared for it (the coronavirus) to stay with us,” Ammon warned.

According to the latest data, 108.7 million people were infected with COVID-19 in the world, of which 80.7 million recovered and almost 2.4 million died of complications of the disease caused by coronavirus infection.

As reported, for the first time in six months, the British managed to take the coronavirus epidemic under control — the virus reproduction rate was less than one.

Stonehenge’s origin mystery revealed

Scientists at University College London and other scientific organizations in the UK have uncovered the mystery of the origin of some bluestones in Stonehenge. It turned out that the monoliths previously belonged to another structure located near the quarry and were later transported to the current site in Salisbury, CNN reports.

The researchers found that the diameters of the Vaun Maun stone circle and the outer moat of Stonehenge are the same at 110 meters. Van Maun is located in Wales, near the quarry in the Preseli Hills, where the bluestone was mined, which was used to build the inner circle of Stonehenge. The distance between the quarry and Stonehenge is about 300 kilometers, but there is evidence that at least five boulders of cromlech were mined in Wales.

The hypothesis is proved by the presence of stone excavations in Vaun Maun, in which the monoliths were once anchored. Both circles also have the same orientation to the point of sunrise on the summer solstice, and one of Stonehenge’s bluestones has an unusual cross-section that matches one of the circle’s holes in Wales.

It is believed that Stonehenge was originally a cromlech made of rough blue stones inserted into Aubrey holes — pits located on the outside of the structure. Giant sarsen stones, forming a circle with a diameter of about 30 meters, were brought later, after 500 years. Currently, about 43 blue stones have survived at Stonehenge.

Sharm el-Sheikh resort in Egypt was surrounded by a concrete wall

Egypt continues to implement measures to ensure the safety of local residents. The next stage was the construction of a giant concrete wall, thanks to which access to the city will be possible only through special checkpoints.

A 36-kilometer wall was built around the popular Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on the Sinai Peninsula. It is reported by the Middle East Monitor newspaper.

The protective structure is made of concrete slabs with sections of barbed wire. The construction of the wall began three years ago.

According to the Egyptian Tourist Guides Association, this fence is designed to protect the resort town of Sharm el-sheik from crime and extremism, as the city is relatively close to the center of Islamist activities in the north of Sinai.

The erected fence is said to extend from the city entrance from the south to its northernmost point in the Nabq area. There are also four checkpoints along the wall.

Thus, now you can get into the city only through specially equipped security checkpoints. All vehicles entering the resort will be thoroughly searched.

The idea to build a wall appeared several years ago. The reason for this was the armed robbery of a bank in Sharm el-Sheikh, which was never solved and the criminals were never found. The authorities are confident that thanks to the installed wall, it will be possible to protect the city from dangerous visitors.

It is noted that the implementation of the project aimed at improving the security of Sharm el-Sheikh has not yet been completed. The ultimate goal of this project is to create the most comfortable conditions for local residents and vacationers in the South Sinai province.

According to representatives of the Egyptian tourism industry, such unprecedented security measures implemented in Sharm el-Sheikh will facilitate the return of tourists to the resort.
