Five people were missing after an explosion at the Currenta chemical plant (a division of the Bayer AG concern) in the city of Leverkusen in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Bild reports, citing the company’s press service.
“During the emergency, several employees were injured, at least two were seriously injured. Now they are being treated by doctors. Currently, five employees are missing, “ the press service of Currenta said in a statement.

The police and the authorities of Leverkusen declared the maximum level of danger, forbidding local residents to open windows, doors and go outside. In social networks, the footage is being distributed, which shows how a thick column of black smoke rises into the sky from the explosion site.
