US urges EU and Germany to impose a moratorium on Nord Stream 2 construction

The time has come for Germany and the European Union to impose a moratorium on the construction of the Russian Nord Stream 2 pipeline and show Russia that Europe will no longer tolerate its “malicious behavior.”

This was stated by the interim Ambassador of the United States to Germany, Robin Quinville, Handelsblatt reports.

“Now is the time for Germany and the EU to impose a moratorium on the construction of the pipeline,” the ambassador said.

This, she said, will send a clear signal that Europe will no longer tolerate “Russia’s persistent malignant behavior.”

“This pipeline is not just an economic project, but also a political tool for the Kremlin to bypass Ukraine and divide Europe,” said Quenneville.

It should be reminded that the construction of the Nord Stream 2 was resumed in Germany on December 5 — it is planned that the Fortuna vessel will conduct underwater operations on the pipeline from December 5 to December 31.
