New Zealand hit by a flood of the century-people evacuated, highways closed

Authorities have evacuated at least 300 homes in Canterbury because of the weather. Several highways, schools, and offices are temporarily closed. The New Zealand Defence Force has brought in helicopters for the rescue operation.

Ashburton Mayor Neil Brown did not rule out the possibility of breaching the levees. If this happens, the authorities will have to evacuate “half of the city”.

As previously reported, flooding and landslides occurred in Indonesia and East Timor. As a result, at least 41 people were killed.
