The Italian resort itself can not cope with forest fires and ask for help from the EU
Large-scale forest fires are raging in the Italian resort of Sardinia, because of which more than a thousand people were evacuated. There are reports of burned houses of local residents and dead animals. The Italian authorities have appealed to the EU for help.
This is reported by the Reuters news agency.
About 1,200 people were forced to leave their homes in the commune of Oristano in the west of the island. Hundreds of tourists also left, who were afraid that aircraft flights would stop because of the fires.
A local resident of Ardauli said on Twitter that not everyone was able to evacuate their pets. There are cases of death of horses and calves.
“This is an unprecedented disaster. About 20 thousand hectares are already on fire, “ said the governor of the region, Christian Solinas.
The European Commission clarified that we are talking about Canadair devices.
“For several hours, a large area in the province of Oristano was on its knees because of a devastating fire. Hundreds of people were evacuated, and the entire area, including houses, was engulfed in flames and damaged. We continue to follow the events. Forward, Oristano, forward, Sardinia!”, — Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio wrote on his FB.
Recall that in early July, Cyprus faced large-scale forest fires. The authorities of this country were also forced to turn to their European friends for help.
