In Portugal, the Ministry of Health announced a disastrous situation with intensive care beds in the event of severe COVID-19 on Saturday.
It is reported by DW.
According to the ministry, for 10 million inhabitants of Portugal on the mainland of the country, there are 850 necessary beds, of which 843 are occupied.
At the same time, another 420 intensive care beds are reserved for other types of diseases.
The publication notes that if at the end of September 2020 the statistics of newly detected cases of coronavirus were relatively low, now in Portugal there is a rapid increase in the rate of spread of COVID-19.
The situation is aggravated by the fact that the British version of the coronavirus is raging in the country, which is much more infectious, and possibly much more dangerous than the previous one.
The Portuguese Ministry of Health said 12,435 new infections and 293 virus-related deaths were recorded in the country in the past 24 hours. In total, since the beginning of the pandemic, 711,000 people have been infected in the country, 12,179 have died.
Recall that due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation, Portugal has imposed restrictions on citizens wishing to travel abroad.
We also reported that Portugal was among the leaders in mortality from coronavirus when 167 people died there per day.
