British Prime Minister Boris Johnson intends to hold a virtual meeting of the leaders of the “Big Seven” to overcome the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan and has also stepped up efforts to evacuate British citizens and other persons from Kabul. This is reported by Reuters.
Boris Johnson spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron to agree on how the two countries can work together to recognize any future government in Afghanistan and try to avert a humanitarian crisis.
The G7 is expected to convene in the coming days. The French and U.S. leaders also agreed that their countries should work together in the U.N. Security Council, including a possible joint resolution.
British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said Western partners would also consider sanctions and aid content if the Taliban failed to defend human rights or allow the country to become a base for terrorism again.
