UN Special Rapporteur Alyona Dukhan said during an informal meeting of the UN Security Council on the issue of illegal unilateral sanctions that such “impact measures” taken by the countries bypassing the UN Security Council are human rights violations. Their negative influence is especially strong against the background of coronavirus pandemic.
“The humanitarian damage from unilateral sanctions is enormous. These measures affect economic, social and civil rights, including the right to development…. as well as violating a number of basic rights of the citizens of the countries in respect of which they are imposed…. including the right to health,” the UN representative said.
