The number of deaths due to infection with coronavirus in Germany crossed the 60 thousand mark.
It is reported by DW.
According to the Robert Koch Institute on Friday, February 5, over the past day, 855 deaths were registered in the country, and thus the total number of deaths in whom the coronavirus was detected reached 60,597.
At the same time, the German Foundation for the Protection of Patients noted that the number of people who died from COVID-19 in Germany in 2021 corresponds to the total number of deaths from coronavirus recorded during 2020.
So, in the last six weeks alone, more than 30,000 deaths from the coronavirus have been registered in Germany, said the head of the foundation, Eugen Brisch. “Thus, in a short period of time, the death toll from COVID-19 has doubled and reached 60,000,” said Brish.
At the same time, since the beginning of 2021, the number of new infections has decreased by two-thirds.
Brish explained that 90% of the deaths from coronavirus are people over 70 years old. However, this group accounts for only 15% of all infected adults. Brish also noted that most of the victims of the pandemic were residents of nursing homes, although, on December 26, it was in these institutions that the coronavirus vaccination campaign started.
