In the south of the Iranian capital, Tehran, a large fire broke out at an oil refinery. This was announced on Wednesday, June 2, by the IRIB TV channel.
According to him, the fire at one of the 19 tanks of the enterprise with a capacity of 20 thousand barrels occurred for technical reasons — there was a fuel leak. In this regard, the management of the refinery completely excluded sabotage as the cause of the fire.
It is noted that the fire will be extinguished as soon as the fuel in the tank is completely burned out. Meanwhile, every effort is being made to resume production at the refinery.
In connection with the emergency at the enterprise, which provides about 15% of Iran’s oil refining capacity, the authorities of the capital called on the population of Tehran to leave the surrounding areas.
No injuries were reported. A court case has been initiated.
Recall that in April, six explosions occurred at an oil refinery in eastern Mexico. Seven people were injured in the fire that broke out after the explosions.
And before that, at the end of March, one of the country’s largest oil refineries exploded in Indonesia. The probable cause of the explosion could be a lightning strike — at the time of the incident, there was a strong thunderstorm.
