Due to the behavior of China and Russia, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has called on NATO to revise the strategic management concept, which was adopted more than 10 years ago.
He said this after an online meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of defense ministers on February 17.
“I think it’s the right time. We have a concept from 2010 that meets our needs very well, but today the situation has changed. For example, it does not take into account the changing balance of power and the rise of China, climate change, “ Stoltenberg said.
In addition, the new concept should take into account the actions of Russia.
“In the concept of 2010, we talked about the partnership with Russia, but since then we have witnessed its aggressive actions towards its neighbors and the situation has changed greatly,” the NATO Secretary-General added.
Stoltenberg also believes that the new concept should “strengthen the link between Europe and North America”, as well as confirm the common values of the member countries of the organization.
In addition, he called for making NATO a platform for political dialogue for all “equally thinking countries” to “ confront Russia and China.”
The new strategic concept of the military bloc should be adopted at the NATO summit, which will be held at the beginning of the year in Brussels.
Recall that Stoltenberg recently said that the North Atlantic Alliance is ready for a clash with the Russian Federation.
