Italy records record increase in coronavirus cases

The daily increase in new cases of a new type of coronavirus infection is the largest in the republic since the beginning of April.


The number of cases of coronavirus infection in Italy per day amounted to 4,458 people, which is almost a thousand more than the day before, the Ministry of Health of the republic said. This was announced on Thursday, October 8.


“This number of infected people was revealed as a result of a record number of tests – more than 128 thousand,” the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, 22 people died in Italy from complications caused by coronavirus infection per day. The total number of infected reached 338 398, of which 236 363 people were cured, 36 083 patients died.


In Italy, as in other European countries, there is a significant increase in the number of infections. Due to the deterioration of the epidemiological situation, the government of the country has decreed the widespread compulsory wearing of masks throughout the national territory, including in the open air. Exceptions are permissible only when being alone or with those closest to you, for children under the age of 6, people for whom masks are contraindicated due to chronic pathologies, as well as when playing sports outdoors.


For violation of the mask regime in Italy, a fine is from 400 to 1,000 euros.
