Only in Talia, about 180 km southeast of Mumbai, the death toll rose to 42. Rescuers found four more bodies thereafter landslides destroyed most of the houses in the village.
“About 40 people are still trapped. The possibility of saving them alive is small since they were in the mud for more than 36 hours, “ the unnamed official said.
