In Sicily, officials falsified data on COVID-19

In Sicily, local authorities manipulated the death toll from COVID-19 to avoid a lockdown.

This is reported by the newspaper Il Giorno.

At the moment, three employees of the regional government of the island of Sicily have been arrested. One of the persons involved in the investigation is a minister of the regional government.

According to the newspaper, the suspects changed information about the situation with the in the region several times. In particular, they changed the data on deaths to avoid increasing the quarantine.

Law enforcement officers have documented about 40 episodes of forgery, the last of which dates back to March 19, 2021.

Earlier it was reported that from April 3 to 5, on the Easter weekend, Italy will introduce a nationwide lockdown. The country will restrict traffic and close many stores.
