Hackers broke into UN computers for compromising information on employees

In early 2021, attackers gained access to the network of UN computers, according to Bloomberg. According to sources, this was made possible thanks to the account data of one of the organization’s employees merged into the darknet.

According to the information security company Re security, the first unauthorized access was made on April 5. The company notes that the information obtained by can be used against United Nations agencies and employees as compromising material.

“Organizations such as the UN are a particularly important target for cyber espionage. The attacker carried out the hacking in order to compromise many users on the UN network for further long-term intelligence collection, ” said Jin Yu, CEO of Resecurity.
