France investigates Sarkozy’s advisory activities in Russia

The French National Prosecutor’s Office for Financial Crimes has launched a preliminary investigation into former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, French media report.

The former head of state is suspected of “influence peddling”. We are talking about his consulting activities in Russia.

According to the Internet portal Mediapart, in 2019, Sarkozy signed a multi-year consulting contract with the Russian insurance company RESO-Garantia for €3 million.

Investigators are trying to determine whether the former president worked as a consultant, which is perfectly legal, or whether he “engaged in sensitive potential lobbying activities.”
