EU to procure additional 300 million doses of Pfizer COVID vaccine

The European Commission expanded the contract with Pfizer and BioNTech from 300 million to 600 million doses of the  vaccine. Deliveries of additional doses of the drug may start at the end of 2021.

This was announced by the Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen at a press conference, which was broadcasted on Twitter.

According to her, 75 mln doses of the new batch should be received in the second trimester. The rest — in the third and fourth trimesters.

It shall be reminded that the European Commission officially approved the vaccine from the alliance of Pfizer and BioNTech on December 21, 2020. This drug was the first to immunize the European population.

In early January 2021, the European Commission officially approved the second coronavirus vaccine — a product from the American company Moderna.
