The Italian village of Coron in South Tyrol flooded several decades ago, emerged from the waters of Lake Lago di Resia. Residents saw it thanks to the repair work at the local reservoir. This is reported by the “BBC”.
It is noted that during the repair, workers temporarily drained the lake, and local residents saw steps, basements, fragments of walls, and stone beams.
One of the visitors to the place, named Luisa Azzolini, said that while walking among the ruins of the former village, she experienced a “strange feeling”.
The village of Kuron was flooded in 1950 when the authorities decided to build a dam and connect two natural lakes into a large reservoir despite the protests of local residents. At the bottom were more than 160 houses. Their owners were provided with new housing. Some wanted to stay in the new settlement built nearby.
Earlier, a group of archaeologists led by the former Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt, Zahi Hawass, discovered the lost “golden city”, founded more than three and a half thousand years ago.
