The Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, called on Russia to consider increasing the supply of coronavirus vaccines.
The WTO Director-General made a similar request to China, Brazil, and Cuba, which, like Russia, are already developing their own drugs and sharing them with other countries. She also noted that those who still need to get permission from the World Health Organization (WHO) should do so to ensure access to vaccines. At the same time, Okonjo-Iweala stressed that it is necessary to increase the existing capacity for the production of these drugs.
Earlier, the head of the WTO said that the UK should immediately give its coronavirus vaccines to poor countries. “I don’t think we should wait for the surplus to appear and for everyone to get the vaccine,” Okonjo — Iweala said. According to her, such tactics will be in the interests of both poor and rich countries.
