WHO allowed the release of a recommendation on mandatory vaccination against coronavirus

The director of the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization, Hans Kluge, in an interview with the German newspaper Handelsblatt, said that WHO may issue a recommendation on mandatory vaccination against the background of the rapid spread of new strains of coronavirus.

At the same time, he noted that today there are tools to encourage the population to participate in immunization. Kluge added that mandatory vaccination is the last resort, warning that such a step could lead to an increase in the anti-vaccination movement.

According to the WHO representative, the delta strain is spreading very quickly in Europe and this can lead to a situation where the health systems in many countries will be overloaded again due to high hospital occupancy.

“Delays in vaccination are taking lives and damaging the economy,” Koyuge concluded.

Earlier, the head of the WHO, Tedros Ghebreyesus, said that a more dangerous strain of coronavirus infection could negate all efforts to combat the pandemic.
