US and Poland signed an $18 billion nuclear deal

Washington will help Warsaw reduce its energy dependence on Russia, the US Energy Ministry promised.

The United States and Poland have signed an agreement to cooperate in the expansion, modernization, and development of the Polish nuclear power program. US Energy Secretary Dan Bruyette said this.

“This is the next step in our historic partnership with Poland. We are committed to working with our allies around the world to help them with their energy security, energy independence, developing alternative energy sources, and ensuring competition in their energy markets. With Poland, we are helping to reduce its energy dependence on Russia, “Bruyette said and added that he signed the document” a few minutes ago.“

Within the framework of the agreements, six large nuclear reactors will also be built in Poland.

“This will restore the competitiveness of US nuclear power,” Bruyette said, adding that there are “many details” in the bilateral agreement.

He stressed that, under United States law, American technology cannot be used for military purposes.

In accordance with the agreements reached, Warsaw will purchase American technologies worth $18 billion.

“This 30-year agreement, the first of its kind, represents a strong energy bond between the United States and Poland,” the US Department of Energy said.

Over the next 18 months, Washington and Warsaw will work together on a report containing the project for the implementation of the Polish nuclear power program, as well as its financing mechanism.
