U.S. Army on alert in Iraq

A pair of American B-52H Stratofortress bombers flew out of the United States and headed for the Middle East.

The US army in the Middle East has stepped up combat readiness over fears of a possible attack by Iranian militias in Iraq. Reported by the authoritative publication Politico, citing an unnamed military official on December 10.

According to him, the Pentagon sees “worrying signs of preparation for possible attacks.”

A pair of American B-52H Stratofortress bombers flew out of the United States and headed for the Middle East, AP reported. Their goal is to send a frightening sign to Iran.

“The ability of bombers to fly nonstop across half the world and quickly integrate them [into missions] with multiple regional partners demonstrates our close relationship and our shared commitment to regional security and stability,” said General Frank Mackenzie, Commander of the United States Middle East.

On December 8, AP, citing a high-ranking military source, wrote that Washington expects attacks from against the backdrop of the US withdrawal of its troops from Afghanistan and Iraq.

Recall that at the end of November, the father of the Iranian nuclear program, scientist Mohsen Fakhrizade Makhabadi was killed near Tehran. Unidentified militants shot his cortege from an ambush.
