Washington’s actions in Ankara were called unfair and called for a review of the decision on sanctions.
Turkey will take all necessary steps against the US decision to impose sanctions against it over the purchase of Russian S-400s. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic, published by the press service of the department on Monday, December 14.
“We condemn and reject the US decision announced today in connection with the supply of S-400 air defense systems, which includes unilateral sanctions against Turkey,” the message says.
As stated in Ankara, Turkey has repeatedly proposed to resolve this issue “on an objective and realistic basis, distancing itself from political prejudices.”
However, Washington did not agree with such a proposal and resorted to unilateral restrictive measures, the communique says.
“Turkey will also not refrain from taking measures that it deems necessary to ensure its own national security. We invite the United States to reconsider the unjust decision on sanctions announced today,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry summed up.
Recall that the United States imposed sanctions against Turkey over the purchase of Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems. US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said the United States would not tolerate major deals with the Russian defense and intelligence sector.
