American actor Tom Cruise, the winner of three statuettes of the Golden Globe Award, awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), said that he refuses all awards and joins the boycott of the HFPA, according to Deadline.
In February 2021, Los Angeles Times reporters found out that among the nearly 100 members of the HFPA, the organizer of the award, there is not a single black person. As a result, the roadmap was prepared even a little before the deadline — and immediately accepted by the participants of the HFPA.
In addition to making other changes, the organization promised this year to accept “at least 20 new members with a special focus on choosing in favor of black people”, and also prohibited receiving gifts from companies and specific representatives of the industry, if they are at least indirectly related to the award.
Tom Cruise received his Golden Globes in 1990, 1997, and 2000.
Earlier, the American TV channel NBC said that it would not broadcast the Golden Globes.
