The US to continue sanctions against Nord Stream 2

Washington’s position on the pipeline remains clear. It lies in the fact that this is a geopolitical project of Russia, which threatens European security.

The United States will continue to take measures against individuals and companies involved in the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project.

This was by the official representative of the State Department Ned Price.

“We will continue to take appropriate measures against organizations and individuals engaged in sub-sanctioned activities to demonstrate our continued opposition to this pipeline,” he stressed during a daily briefing.

Price also added that Washington’s main goal in this matter is to prevent from using the pipeline “as a tool of coercion against Ukraine or any other country.”

The US position on the pipeline remains clear. It lies in the fact that this is a geopolitical project of Russia, which threatens European energy security and undermines the security of other partner countries.

Recall that the White House previously stated that it is impossible to stop the Nord Stream 2 because it is almost ready.

At the same time, according to Anthony Blinken, the United States is cooperating with Germany in studying compensation to Ukraine for the possible loss of transit payments when Nord Stream 2 is completed, but they do not rule out that they will also impose sanctions against the operator of the Nord Stream 2 AG project.
