UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is concerned about the growing tensions in East Jerusalem and calls for a de-escalation of the situation.
This was stated at a briefing by his official representative, Stephane Dujarric.
“This rapidly escalating escalation must stop immediately… Contacts are being held at all levels with all parties involved to help de-escalate the situation, ” Dujarric said.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu during a telephone conversation noted a dangerous increase in tension in East Jerusalem.
Guterres has previously expressed concern about the situation in Jerusalem and called on all parties to exercise restraint.
