The world’s largest meat producer, the Brazilian company JBS SA, informed the US government that a criminal group, which is probably located in Russia, conducted a cyber attack on the organization, writes Reuters with reference to the White House.
The hacker attack was reportedly carried out using ransomware, as was the case with the operator of the largest pipeline in the United States, the Colonial Pipeline.
The press secretary of the US White House, Karin Jean-Pierre, commenting on the incident, said that Washington has already contacted Moscow about this. According to her, the investigation of the hacker attack is already being handled by the FBI.
“JBS has notified the administration that the ransom demand came from a criminal organization that may be based in Russia. The White House is working directly with the Russian government on this issue, “ a White House spokeswoman said.
Earlier it was reported that the world’s largest meat producer, the Brazilian company JBS SA suffered from hacker attacks on its branches in Australia and North America.
The JBS incident affected the Canadian beef processing plant in Brooks, Alberta, where work was completely stopped, as well as the company’s processing plant in Belleville, Ontario.
