Prime Minister Castex considers mass vaccination of the population to be a way out of this situation
Following Germany, where the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic was announced last week, the French authorities made a similar statement.
According to France24, Prime Minister Jean Castex was the first to say this when speaking in the French parliament on March 16.
“France has entered a kind of the third wave,” the French prime minister said.
Castex described the emergence of many strains of infection as a characteristic feature of this period, and great importance is attached to the success of the national immunization campaign.
“We know that it is the mass vaccination that will allow us to get out of this [third wave],” said the head of the Cabinet of Ministers.
In addition, Jean Castex hinted that tough quarantine measures could be introduced in the metropolitan area, including Paris, following several others in the coming days.
It is worth noting that France has become one of many European countries that have refused to use AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 drug. Despite this, over the past day, more than 144 thousand doses of the vaccine have been introduced in the country, and in total since the beginning of the immunization campaign — almost 5.3 million.
During the pandemic in France, more than 4 million cases of COVID-19 were detected, about 90 thousand of them were fatal. Due to the difficult situation due to the epidemic, France has increased quarantine.
