For the second time in the last week, a large group of migrants who illegally crossed the border from the territory of Belarus was detained in Poland.
This is reported by RMF24.
The group consisted of 49 people — 34 men, 5 women, and 10 children. Most of them were people originally from Afghanistan, seven more were Chechens-citizens of Russia.
The border guards noticed them near the borderline. Most of them did not have any identification cards with them. Everyone will be placed in special centers under protection.
According to the border service, a total of 235 people were detained in 2021 for illegally crossing the border from the territory of Belarus, while in the last half of 2020 this figure was 120.
The first large group of illegal migrants who arrived in Poland through the border of Belarus — 40 people originally from Afghanistan-were detained earlier this week.
We remind that neighboring Lithuania has been suffering for the last month and especially for a week from an unprecedented number of illegal migrants arriving through the territory of Belarus from the Middle East and Africa. On July 2, Lithuania declared a national emergency regime in this regard. The Prime Minister said that the border will be strengthened by the army and additional barriers will be built on it.
The Lithuanian government considers this an organized action of the Lukashenka regime for Vilnius ‘ tough stance against repressions against dissidents in Belarus and support for the Belarusian opposition.
The European agency Frontex has already sent a mission of border guards to Lithuania and Latvia to strengthen the protection of their borders with Belarus. Estonia also sent a small mission of border guards.
