Damien Tarel, who attacked French President Emmanuel Macron, received four months in prison with immediate punishment, according to the BFM TV channel, which broadcasts the court session.
According to the court decision, Tarel was sentenced to four months in prison with immediate arrest and another 14 months of probation. Later, he will face two more years of probation — during these two years, he must work or undergo training, as well as receive psychological assistance and must not commit any new offenses.
The prosecutor requested 18 months in prison for Tarel. The article on violence against a person with state authority, according to which a man is tried, provides for a penalty of three years in prison and a fine of 45 thousand.
Earlier, Macron received a slap in the face — the president, approaching the fence with the guards, wanted to shake the hand of an unknown man, but instead of shaking hands, he received a blow to the face. The offender was quickly neutralized by security personnel. The incident occurred during a trip of the head of state to the department of Drome as part of the presidential campaign.
At the trial, Tarel, who attacked the president, said that he acted quickly and did not think that he would slap the head of state.
