The Indonesian army announced the cancellation of the “virginity test”

The Indonesian army intends to cancel the so-called “virginity test” for female recruits. This was announced by the human rights organization Human Rights Watch.

Now the examination of women will be the same as the examination of their male colleagues. As General Andika Perkasa noted, medical checks on issues that are not related to the service will no longer be carried out.

It is noted that the Indonesian armed forces have used this test for decades to test female recruits. In some cases, it was applied to the brides of soldiers. During the examination, doctors inserted two fingers inside the woman’s vagina to check whether the hymen was intact. Back in 2014, representatives of the World Health Organization said that such checks have no scientific justification and are a form of sexual violence.

Earlier it became known that female soldiers in the Swiss army will be allowed to wear women’s underwear instead of men’s.
