French Justice Minister Eric Dupont-Moretti did not indicate in the tax return the income in the amount of 300 thousand, which he received as fees before taking office. This was reported on Wednesday by Agence France-Presse.
Dupont-Moretti has been the head of the Ministry of Justice since July 2020, and before that, he was a successful lawyer, starred in films, wrote books, and played in the theater. He hid the royalties for books and performances on the stage of the Madeleine Theater in 2019. This, as the agency informed, resulted in non-payment of taxes in the amount of 180 thousand euro.
The minister’s entourage said that Dupont-Moretti made this mistake, but corrected it by submitting a tax return for 2018-2019 again. According to the agency’s source, an audit of the income and expenses of members of the French government conducted last year did not reveal any violations. The newspaper Le Parisien clarifies that Dupont-Moretti, on his own initiative, sent a new tax return to the Ministry of Economy, Finance, and Reconstruction and settled the claims.
