The Royal Caribbean cruise ship arrived in Mexico for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic — on the island of Cozumel in the Caribbean Sea.
Cozumel is the third largest Mexican island, it is located in the Atlantic and is included in the UNESCO list of nature reserves. Thanks to its convenient location and deep-water ports, it hosts about 40% of international cruises in Mexico.
The guests were greeted by the Governor of the state of Quintana Roo, Carlos Joaquin. In his speech, he noted that the shutdown of cruise shipping has seriously hit the economy — the volume of lost profits amounted to $400 million.
Onboard the ship Adventure of the seas, which arrived in Mexico from the Bahamas, there are more than a thousand passengers, most of them, according to local authorities, are vaccinated against COVID-19, and the rest have been repeatedly tested and can go ashore only by ordering a special safe excursion.
