The Czech Republic recorded a record number of new COVID cases per day

Over the past day, more than 16 thousand Czech citizens have become infected with the coronavirus. More than 5.5 thousand people are treated in hospitals with a diagnosis of COVID-19, 826 of them are in serious condition.

In the Czech Republic, over the past 24 hours, the largest number of new infections with  has been recorded since the beginning of the pandemic. 16,329 people were infected. At the same time, two thousand infections were detected in the capital of the country, Prague, Novinky writes.

48.5% of the tests were positive, which is also the highest indicator for the entire period of the  infection epidemic. “Thus, laboratories have confirmed the infection in every second tested,” — said in the message.

It is noted that 5,712 patients with a confirmed COVID diagnosis are in hospitals, of which 826 are in serious condition.

Today there are 105,710  patients in the Czech Republic. Over the entire period of the pandemic, 701.6 thousand Czechs were infected, 584.4 thousand recovered, 11 429 citizens died.

Recall that on December 27, the moved to the maximum level of the epidemiological threat. The republic has imposed a curfew and a ban on citizens leaving their homes unless absolutely necessary.

As previously reported, the Czech Prime Minister was the first in the country to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
