The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has conducted a study of the state of the world food market. Its results showed that the negative consequences of the coronavirus pandemic had almost no impact on this market. In fact, the food market has proven immune to the shocks caused by COVID-19.
According to the forecast of the organization’s experts, by the end of this year, the total volume of imports of food products will exceed the last year’s indicator. At the same time, there is a decrease in the volume of consumption of expensive food products.
The most significant growth in the turnover of food products is observed in developing countries. The volume of export deliveries of products from these countries increased by 4.6% in the first half of the year.
In developed countries, there is a decrease in the volume of food exports. Fats of plant and animal origin are in the greatest demand. At the same time, the import of fish products and beverages decreased in the 1st half of the year by 10% and 12%, respectively.
