Iran announces successful animal test of coronavirus vaccine

Iran has announced a successful test of a vaccine against COVID-19 on animals, IRNA reports.

The chief executive of the order of Imam Khomeini, Mohammad Mohler, said that “the work of Iranian researchers and scientists to create a vaccine against coronavirus has successfully reached the final stage, and tests of this vaccine on animals, which were carried out on monkeys, were successful.”

“Iranian researchers have used several methods to create a vaccine for the coronavirus, which is nearing completion, and the effectiveness of the vaccine has been confirmed and will soon be tested in humans,” he said.

According to him, after the vaccine was administered to the monkey, no traces of the virus were observed in the animal, and even with pathology, there were no traces of the virus. All vaccine documentation has been sent to the Ministry of Health to obtain a license for testing on humans.

“A vaccine production line has also been built and, at the same time as the announcement of the success of the human trial, this production line will open, where we can produce more coronavirus vaccines than the country needs,” he added.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus in Iran to date, more than 500,000 people have been infected with the virus, of which 29,000 have died.

The US expands the list of sanctions against Iran

Correctional institutions and judges were sanctioned

The US has expanded the list of sanctions against Iran. The authorities added two judges, three prisons, and a branch of the Revolutionary Court in Shiraz.

This was reported by the US Treasury Department.

Correctional institutions located in such cities as Urmia, Mashhad, and Shiraz also fell under the sanctions.

According to US Special Representative for Iran Elliot Abrams, in connection with the execution of 27-year-old fighter Navid Afkari, sanctions will soon be imposed on Iranian officials.

We also wrote that the United States has expanded sanctions against Iran. Washington went to such measures to thwart supplies to Tehran, which could be used in nuclear, missile, and military programs.

European countries did not support the United States on sanctions against Iran

Washington withdrew from the agreement on Iran’s nuclear program, so its decisions to renew sanctions have no legal force, according to Berlin, Paris, and London.

Germany, France, and Britain have rejected a US proposal to renew sanctions against Iran after September 20. This is stated in the letter of the permanent representatives of these countries to the UN, addressed to the UN Security Council.

As noted, three European countries – Great Britain, France, and Germany (the so-called Euro tree) – contrary to the position of the United States, refused to renew sanctions against Tehran, which were lifted after the signing of an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program in 2015.

The letter states that any decisions or actions by the United States aimed at activating the mechanism to restore UN sanctions against Iran will not have legal force due to Washington’s withdrawal from the agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.

The mechanism for restoring sanctions was laid down in UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which ratified the nuclear agreement with Iran signed in 2015. According to this clause, in case of non-fulfillment of the terms of the agreement, any of its participants can demand the restoration of penal measures, and other parties cannot veto this demand.

However, due to the unilateral US withdrawal from the agreement in 2018, the Euro tree believes that Washington no longer has the legal ability to demand the restoration of UN sanctions against Tehran.

The White House is convinced that formally Washington has the right to use this mechanism since it participated in the signing of the resolution.

It is not yet clear how the United States will be able to launch this mechanism if the majority of countries in the UN Security Council do not support Washington on this issue.

Earlier, the United States announced the restoration of UN sanctions against Iran. Washington also threatened Tehran’s nuclear supporters with measures.
