Slovakia is the second in the EU to buy the Russian vaccine “Sputnik V”

Slovakia became the second country in the EU to purchase a Russian coronavirus vaccine without waiting for its approval by the European regulator.

This is reported by Aktuality.

The government of Slovakia has not yet officially announced the purchase of the vaccine in the Russian Federation.

However, according to a well-informed Aktuality source in the Ministry of Health, the first batch of vaccines should land at the airport in Kosice in the late afternoon.

This information is also confirmed by the fact that Prime Minister Igor Matovich and Health Minister Marek Krajci are planning to hold a press conference there this evening.

Neither the ministry nor the Prime Minister’s office responded to the question about the purchase of Sputnik V during the day.

According to Aktuality, the minister has already signed a permit for the use of Sputnik V, which is an unregistered vaccine in the European Union.

On Sunday evening, Prime Minister Igor Matovich posted a cryptic status on Facebook. “It’s going to be a big week. Two big decisions that will significantly change Slovakia, “ he wrote.

One of these solutions may be the purchase of a Russian vaccine.

According to radar data, one of the Slovak military aircraft is already flying from Russia to Slovakia, and the other is flying in the opposite direction.

Currently, only Hungary uses Sputnik V among the EU member states.

“The Myanmar military must end the brutal suppression of peaceful protests, which resulted in many people being killed or injured, while clearly ignoring international law. They must be held accountable. The European Union strongly supports the brave people of Myanmar and will respond.” indicated in the message.

Jake Sullivan, US Assistant to the President for National Security, also announced retaliatory measures.

“The United States is alarmed by the violence by the Myanmar security forces against peaceful demonstrators.<…> We are preparing additional actions to make those responsible for this latest outbreak of violence and the recent coup continue to pay the bills,” he warned.

We will remind, on the eve during the protests against the military coup in Myanmar, at least 18 protesters were killed. The security forces used flash and noise grenades, tear gas, and also fired live ammunition against the protesters.

The Czech Republic decided to buy the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine from Russia, and the Czech authorities have already sent a corresponding appeal to Moscow. This was announced by the President of the Republic Milos Zeman, his words are reported by CNN Prima News.

It is noted that the letter addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin was sent by Zeman in agreement with the country’s Prime Minister Andrei Babish. “If I am correctly informed, this request will be satisfied,” the head of the republic said.

Earlier, Babish expressed hope that the supply of the Russian drug would be approved by the European Union. He also said that many citizens of the country are turning to him with the idea of purchasing Sputnik V.

Currently, Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca are approved in the Czech Republic. 644 thousand people have already been vaccinated.

EU plans to adopt new “strategic compass” for security

The leaders of the European Union member states agreed to develop and adopt a so-called common “strategic compass” in the field of security and defense.

This was stated by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, reports by DW.

“We want to increase investment in defense, as well as increase civilian and military capabilities and operational readiness,” Michel said.

The purpose of the “strategic compass” is to determine what the EU should be able to do in a joint response in certain crisis situations, as well as what it should not resort to. The development of the document should be completed by March 2022.

The document also aims to achieve greater strategic autonomy, which will allow the EU to promote its interests and values at the global level while reducing the influence of the United States and activating countries such as China and Russia.

The strategy is based on a threat analysis completed at the end of 2020. This secret document, based on intelligence data, describes, among other things, what threats may arise from Russia and China.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg also joined the discussion of certain issues during the EU video summit.

In recent years, the EU countries have been trying to coordinate their actions more closely in the field of security and defense, for example, in the issue of financing joint defense projects.

The European Union has agreed on the need to introduce vaccination certificates

The leaders of the EU countries agreed on the need to introduce vaccination certificates. This was stated by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

According to Merkel, we are talking about electronic certificates that will be ready within three months. “We were all United in the fact that we need it,” she said. The documents themselves will be developed by European countries, and the technical issues and compatibility of certificates in all EU states will be worked out by the European Commission.

The Chancellor noted that the certificates can become the basis for travel within the European Union, as well as for entry into its territory from third countries.
