Russia announced the launch of a hypersonic missile

The Frigate Admiral Gorshkov fired a Zircon hypersonic rocket from the White Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry said. Test shooting was carried out at a target in the Barents Sea.

In the waters of the Arctic Ocean, the Russian Zircon hypersonic missile was tested. The rocket was launched from the frigate Admiral Gorshkov. She covered 450 kilometers and hit a target in the Barents Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

“Rocket firing was carried out as part of testing new types of weapons. According to objective control, the Zircon hypersonic anti-ship missile successfully hit a sea target at a distance of 450 km. The missile’s flight speed was more than Mach 8,” the statement says.

Previous tests took place in October, the Russian military said.

According to Russian media reports, after the tests, the hypersonic complex will enter service with submarine and surface ships of the Russian Navy.
