Record heat continues in Greece

In Greece, the intense heat has been going on for almost a week, this week in some regions the temperature is predicted up to +47 degrees Celsius.

This is reported by Ekathimerini.

Monday will almost certainly be the hottest day in the Attica region, which includes the capital Athens, and although the heat will decrease slightly from Tuesday, temperatures will remain very high for the rest of the week, meteorologists warn.

The research director at the Athens Observatory, Costas Laguvardos, said this hot wave will be among the ten strongest in the past 35 years.

Noting that there have been 10 prolonged heatwaves since 1987, he adds that there have been two of them this year and that they will become longer and more frequent.

Several archaeological sites across the country were ordered to suspend operations Monday to protect staff and visitors from the heat.

Hot weather can make forest fires worse.

A large fire on the popular resort island of Rhodes, which began on Sunday amid dry weather and strong winds, was extinguished on Monday, the fire department said, although the fire hazard remains high.
