Pope Francis will not lead New Year’s service

Pope Francis will not hold New Year’s Mass on December 31st and January 1st. He has health problems.

This was reported in the press center of the Vatican.

“Due to the painful neuralgia of the sciatic nerve, this evening and tomorrow morning, the divine services at the cathedral throne of St. Peter’s Basilica will not be chaired by the Holy Father,” the message says.

The evening prayer and thanksgiving prayer on the evening of December 31 will be conducted by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, and the Holy Mass on January 1 will be led by Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

At the same time, Pope Francis will conduct the “Angel of the Lord” prayer on January 1, which will be broadcast from the library of the Apostolic Palace, as scheduled.

Let us remind you that Pope Francis spoke about the consumer attitude of people towards Christmas. He believes that Christians have forgotten the true spirit of the holiday.

We previously reported that Pope Francis, in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, granted a “special indulgence” to all believers who repented during the year.
