Poland will send humanitarian aid to Lithuania in connection with the migration crisis on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border. This is reported by the Polish Foreign Ministry.
In connection with the crisis that has been going on for several months, related to the influx of illegal migrants from the territory of Belarus to the border with Lithuania, the Republic of Poland has decided to send convoys with humanitarian aid. This is a gesture of solidarity and support for our neighbor and ally, “ the Polish Foreign Ministry noted.
The convoy was assembled at the expense of the government Agency for Strategic Reserves. Its cost is about 740 thousand zlotys (about $190 thousand), for this money, tents, electricity generators, blankets, field beds were loaded into the cars.
The Polish Foreign Ministry explained that “we are dealing with a crisis that was artificially and deliberately created.”
We condemn this approach, which uses the difficult social, economic, and sometimes political situation in the countries of origin of migrants to implement the current political agenda. We declare full solidarity with Lithuania and appeal to all EU countries for the support of the Vilnius authorities in their efforts to secure the external border of the EU, “ the diplomats stressed.
Earlier it became known that Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda signed amendments to the legislation, according to which the rights of illegal migrants are restricted in the country. According to Nauseda, these measures are aimed at solving the extreme situation on the border of Lithuania and Belarus. According to the amendments to the law on the Legal status of Foreigners, the deadlines for processing asylum applications have been reduced.
