Merkel called the beginning of the war against the USSR “a cause for shame” for the Germans

German Chancellor Angela Merkel called the day of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War when nazi  attacked the USSR, a “cause for shame” for the German people.





In a video message, the Chancellor said that Germany recognizes its continued responsibility for the crimes of the Nazi regime. The Germans must work “for the sake of peace and international order.”

“In a few days, on June 22, the anniversary of the attack of Nazi Germany on the then Soviet Union will take place. After the German attack on in 1939 unleashed the Second World War, two years later, Germany opened the next terrifying chapter. For us Germans, this day is a cause for shame,” Merkel said.

She also called on Germans to remember their duty to the millions of victims and their descendants.

Earlier, the German Chancellor said that the countries of the (EU) should maintain a dialogue with Russia, following the example of US President . She noted that the dialogue with Moscow is necessary from the point of view of the and stability of Europe, so it will continue, despite all the difficulties.
