Meghan Markle, 39, and Prince Harry, 36, once again went live from their home in Santa Barbara, talking to Evening Standard. In a rare joint interview, the spouses once again addressed the topic of racism. For example, Meghan spoke in favor of Black Lives Matter, a social movement against discrimination and violence against blacks, and Harry called for an end to structural racism in his native Great Britain.
In the conversation, the Duke of Sussex admitted that he did not take the problem of black people’s abuse so personally until he met his future wife. It was his beloved who opened Harry’s eyes to the injustice that people of another race face all their lives.
We, white people, are not always aware of what it’s like for people of a different color in the world that was created by and for whites. I was not aware of so many problems in the UK and around the world. I thought I did, but I didn’t. When you go into a toy store with your child, you don’t even think, “It’s weird why there are no black dolls here. Now it’s not about pointing fingers and blaming someone. The point is to make the world a better place. I think this is a unique moment for that, both in British culture and in the world. We shouldn’t miss it, because before us nobody managed to do it,
— shared his thoughts with Harry.
Meghan, in her turn, spoke about the benefits of protests like Black Lives Matter, but specified that it was about peaceful actions:
The Black Lives Matter action was inflammatory for many people, but when people express their opinion exclusively peacefully and just want to recognize equality, it’s fine.
In a new joint interview, the spouses not only discussed racial issues but also shared news about their one-year-old son Archie. Interestingly, at some point, the conversation, which took place in the living room of the American mansion of Meghan and Harry, was joined by the family’s favorite pet — a beagle named Guy.
Archie is doing well. We were very lucky with the baby. He is always busy with something and constantly keeps us in suspense,
— Meghan told about her and Harry’s growing up son.
