The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan declared an emergency situation in the city due to the threat of overcrowding of hospitals in connection with the epidemic COVID-19.
He stated that every thirtieth inhabitant of London is now sick. Khan also noted that the British health service could “overheat” if action is not taken immediately. “[Then] more people will die,” he said.

Earlier, Britain imposed a third national quarantine because of a pandemic coronavirus. As of January 5, English schools will switch to remote work mode, only children of “key” professions: doctors, social workers, firefighters, police officers, couriers, salespeople will be allowed to go to school. People will only be allowed to leave home for a walk, to see a doctor, or to go to the store. Citizens with severe chronic diseases are advised not to leave the house.
