Latvia declared an emergency due to COVID

All bars, nightclubs, skating rinks, water parks, children’s rooms in shopping and entertainment centers are closing in the country.

From November 9 to December 6, the Latvian authorities introduced an emergency situation to contain the coronavirus epidemic.

For this period, all public events on the premises are prohibited. No more than 10 people and no more than two households are allowed to attend private events.

All bars, nightclubs, skating rinks, water parks, children’s rooms in shopping and entertainment centers are closed.

In the mall, most of the stores will be closed, except for grocery stores selling hygiene, household goods, and pet supplies, as well as pharmacies, opticians, bookstores, and the press.

Beauty salons and tattoo parlors are closing, hairdressing salons will be able to work by appointment. Restaurants and bars will only be able to sell food to go — with the exception of those providing catering at the airport and workplaces.

Kindergartens will remain open. Schoolchildren of grades 1-6 will continue their education in classes, the rest of the pupils and university students will switch to distance learning, except for some practical lessons. At the same time, individual lessons with masters or tutors are allowed.

Exhibition centers, cultural institutions, gyms, and religious institutions must be closed from 20-00 to 06-00. At the same time, cultural events and excursions for groups are prohibited in museums and exhibition centers if they are not members of the same household.

Gyms can accommodate no more than 50% of their capacity at the same time. Sports events and competitions are prohibited, except for higher professional sports. They should be held without spectators.

For violation of the established rules, citizens will be punished with fines of up to €2 thousand, legal entities — up to €5 thousand.

As reported, the Latvian government supported the draft law developed by the Ministry of Justice, according to which a fine of up to 50 euros is provided for not wearing a protective mask in public places.
