Konin is the first city in Poland to have a hydrogen bus

Miejski Zaklad Komunikacji in Konin will become the first public transport operator in to have a hydrogen bus in its fleet. The bus will be delivered by Solaris to Poznan. The on this issue was signed on Wednesday, July 7.

The tender won by Solaris Bus & Coach concerns the lease of a hydrogen-powered Urbino 12 bus for four years. The car will be delivered to Konin in 2022. It is in this city that the first public hydrogen station in Poland will be built by the end of 2021.

— Modernization of the bus fleet of the Communication Plant in Konin — the direction chosen by the city of Konin. When announcing its modernization, I was referring mainly to hybrid and electric buses. The fact that today we are signing a lease agreement for a Solaris hydrogen bus is a matter of pride and great joy for me. The most modern solutions in the field of public transport in the world will go to Horsemeat. I believe that this is just the beginning, “ said the president of Konina, Pyotr Korytkovsky.

— We are observing an unusual moment. Not so long ago, our company introduced the first electric buses on the Polish market, but today we are signing the first contract for the supply of a hydrogen bus to Konin. We have repeatedly stated that we are the forerunners of changes in public transport in Poland — today is an excellent confirmation of this. Hydrogen has a chance to become one of the pillars of the transformation of public transport in Poland and throughout Europe, “ added Javier Callea, President of the Board of Solaris Bus & Coach.

Among the main advantages of a hydrogen bus, it is worth mentioning the short refueling time of the car, a very large power reserve, as well as a silent and convenient operation mode with zero emissions for the city. Hydrogen is an absolutely pure source of energy. The only by-products of the chemical reaction occurring in the hydrogen cell are heat and water vapor. The hydrogen will be stored in gaseous form in tanks located on the roof. The ordered bus will also be equipped with an additional electric power accumulator-a Solaris High Power accumulator.

— We undertake this task very timidly, but with great confidence that in any case, it is necessary to follow this path. We know that thanks to cooperation with Solaris and with the support of the city authorities, we will be able to do this, “ says Magdalena Przybyla, Chairman of the Management Board of the municipal communications enterprise in Konin.

Recall that at the end of January this year, a series of presentations of the Solaris hydrogen bus was held in several cities of Poland. Then the car was delivered to Konin, were invited representatives of the city authorities and transport companies were able to evaluate the advantages of this high-tech vehicle. Representatives of public transport companies in Jaworzno, Krakow, and Poznan also showed interest in the hydrogen bus.
