Johnny Depp sues defamation case

He claims that Amber Heard did not pay the charitable donations, thereby violating the terms of the divorce agreement.

The protracted litigation between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has developed — the actor wants to review the libel case, which he lost in 2020. In 2018, the British tabloid The Sun in its publication called the actor “a man who beats his wife” — it was about domestic violence charges brought by the actor’s ex-wife Amber Heard.

According to the actor’s lawyers, Amber Heard did not pay $7 million in charitable donations. According to the divorce agreement, they had to be transferred to the American Civil Liberties Union, which helps women, and the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital. During the first libel trial in the High Court, the actress stated that she had already made a translation. Depp’s lawyers called Amber Heard’s words “manipulative lies.”

It is not yet known whether the appeal will be upheld, but the judge considering the case assured that a decision would be made very soon.

Recall that the couple was married for only 15 months. In 2016, Amber Heard accused Depp of domestic violence. The actor denies that he raised his hand against his wife. Depp’s side was supported by his former common-law wife Vanessa Paradis, the former lover of actor Winona Ryder, his close friend Penelope Cruz and singer Sia. Due to the libel case, the Warner Bros film studio asked Johnny Depp to refuse to participate in the new films in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series.
