The head of the Federation of Italian Medical Guilds, Filippo Anelli, called on the country’s authorities to introduce a national quarantine in connection with the record spread of a new type of coronavirus infection. This was announced on Monday, November 9, by ANSA.

Anelli said Italy’s national health system could not cope with the rise in COVID-19 cases and warned Italy could face another 10,000 deaths within a month.

It is known that last week the government of Giuseppe Conte introduced a three-tier system of local restrictions, according to which the regions of Calabria, Lombardy, Piedmont, and Val d’Aosta went into strict quarantine. These regions were classified as high contamination red zones.

In the red quarantine zone, trade establishments and markets that are not of critical importance are closed, and travel outside the hometown is prohibited. Exceptions are made only for those who work in another region and for those who need treatment outside of their place of residence.

Over the past 24 hours, Italy has identified 25,271 new cases of coronavirus, about 7,000 fewer than yesterday. But at the same time, 43,000 fewer tests were carried out than on Saturday. The positive test rate is 17.1%.

On the other hand, doctors note that the increase in deaths has increased — 356 people with coronavirus have died in the last 24 hours, while the day before this figure was 331.

We will remind you, in Italy, from November 5, a ban was introduced to leave the house from 22.00 to 05.00 without a valid reason. The corresponding decree was signed by the Prime Minister of the Republic, Giuseppe Comte.
